Bio

Sunday 9/6/09 time 8:26 PM - Aaron Chavez

Aaron Chavez grew up in the small town of Plainview, Texas to Wally and Rose Ann Chavez. At age four he was introduced to the study of piano from Bobbi Lee Farmer. He almost lost motivation for piano after a few months of struggling, yet calm and patiently, Farmer convinced him to continue. Inspired by the words of Mrs. Farmer, Aaron began to excell in his piano playing and completed his fist guild audition that same year. He was taught by Farmer until her passing away when he was 5. After a few temporary piano teachers, the Chavez family settled in on a teacher at the Fine Arts Center at Wayland Baptist University. Her name is Jennine Greene and Chavez has been under her instruction ever since and is going on in his tenth year of study.

Chavez began early compostions as a 6 year old. His first known composition is a hymm called "I'm Thankful For You Jesus". Not a masterpiece, but a start to a line of creativity that has yet to stop rolling. He would write other compositions, but one that stuck out was a song called "Triumph". This song was special, and it was special because it was written for a family. And this family had just lost their 19 yr old son to a car accident a few months earlier. He would submit this song in a contest and he would win an award for it.

Another inspiration for Chavez in songwriting occured one day when his class took a trip to the college Wayland Baptist University to watch a man play piano. However, this man wasn't playing from sheet music, rather, he had a very creative way of coming up with a song. He would ask someone their full name and from the musical letters in their name (a-g) he would compose a song almost instantly. An amazed Aaron Chavez would soon pick up on the art of this and composed songs from many of his friends' names. Chavez even played in his first talent show using this improv writing tool.

A few years went by before Chavez would compose again. But in the 6th grade he discovered poetry and wrote about 30 poems that year. At the start of his 7th grade year, he picked up poetry again, but he felt it lacked something. Having been under the inlfuence of the Beatles, he would write his first song with lyrics called "Don't Whisper". And from that point on, song after song came out. There was the mellancholy ballad "Aftermath (Memories)" about a girl who dumped him, the piano rock tune of "Fly", the catchy bounce to "Career Day". A major turn in his music happend in January 2009 when he wrote a song called "Speechless". Chavez likes to think of this as a milestone in his music.

A month later, the local coffe house "The Broadway Brew was having an "Open Mic Night". This is where anyone who wants to, can perform for a little while. Chavez played his very first performance of orginal music here, and this started a new fire for entertainment in him. While attending a leadership conference in Houston he played a song at a talent show. He's also played at a talent show at school with a temporary band, at several open mic nights, at a talent show at his church, and at a music fest held at the brew. During the summer of 2009 Aaron recorded and mixed a CD he titled "Speechless".

Aaron has written over 30 pieces total in his run with music and will definately keep it coming. He has many ideas for future plans that he can't wait to see unfold. His dream is to make a living as a performer, but he realizes that his dream can't be his motivation. The music has to be his motivation and goal, and if he does this, he will be moving closer and closer to that dream.
